Tasty Tuesday Orange Banana Bread!
On New Year's Day, I felt like baking something and I had a nice, big naval orange and three aging bananas. This is what I did with them. . .
Cheryl's Orange Banana Bread
3 very ripe bananas
2/3 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
3 tsp baking powder
2 1/2 cups flour
the zest (about 1 Tbsp) and juice of one large orange
2 eggs
1/3 cup shortening
Cream the shortening together with the eggs, bananas, and sugar. Add the orange juice and zest and then beat in remaining ingredients. Bake in a large (9 X 5) greased loaf pan at 350 degrees for about one hour and enjoy!

I love banana bread but I never thought of putting any type of oranges in bread but this recipe does sound quite delicious. I'm going to have to try it out :D
ReplyDeleteThat recepie sounds soooooo goooood!!! Something tells me that's a keeper.
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty tasty, and VERY moist. It didn't last very long around here, either!
ReplyDeleteWOW you have a busy blog tour set up! I'm impressed! The bread looks delicious. I'll make banana bread occasionally, but have never tried orange. Yummm.
ReplyDeleteSounds fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds pretty tasty. Only Problem Big Banana's never have a chance to get to ripe here. My RG is a Big Banana Man.
ReplyDeleteI'll try to Grab one, hopefully he won't notice. LOL!!!
Oh, that sounds delish! I make banana bread all the time because the kids don't really like bananas as they are...so I buy em, leave em on the counter and make banana bread.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I put chocolate chips in mine!
I have to try this recipe. So many frozen bananas in my freezer I use to make shakes, now I have another use for them. Thanks, Cheryl.
ReplyDeleteBoy, you said it, Kendra! I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, though. Then it's Nashville, here I come!
ReplyDeleteHey KyleeJ!
ReplyDeleteI do believe you're a newbie around here. Welcome to the blog!
LOL! So, you have to play "Hide the Banana" to get them ripe, huh,Donna?
ReplyDeleteI'll let you take that one from here!
I never thought of freezing bananas before, Armenia. Good idea!
ReplyDeleteThat looks good Cheryl. I never try banana bread before. To tell you the truth the only way I eat a banana is the plain fruit but I might give this bread a try :)
ReplyDeleteI swear that when I buy rather firm bananas that they start getting spots on the way home.
ReplyDeleteI also swear that Brad is working his "banana" with his left hand...anybody else pick up on that? *grin*
You've never had banana bread, Leslie? You HAVE to try it!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the spots, Nancy, but which picture of Brad are you referring to?
OK Nancy, I see what you are talking about, left hand and Monday moons, they do seem to do together. That was very good! :)
ReplyDeleteCheryl...That would be Brad's buns yesterday on Monday Moons.
ReplyDeletea) I'd love to see the front side and
b) From the bun side, it really does look like he's working his banana
Jessica, you got it:)
Just FYI. Even if I sometimes buy organic, I usually don't notice a huge taste difference but I do when I buy organic bananas.
Diva Donna...what does RG stand for?
The Orange Banana Bread recipe sounds really good.
Ladies,
ReplyDeleteI see we can fun with Banana's even if they're in bread. Cheryl you know me too well. I see you read between the lines very well. Nancy, RG is my big banana man Ronald Gene. LOL!!!
Yes Cheryl we do want to see Brad's banana. So peel him.
Hi Cheryl
ReplyDeleteI've only been visiting your blog for a few months & I thought there was a pattern here: recipe & cute guy pic. The last one I remember is sausage stew & cute guy with his sausage. Today we have banana bread. Does this not call for cute guy with his banana?
Good recipe though!!
I thought that's what you meant, Nancy, but I figured he was more trying to hide it than work it!
ReplyDeleteOkay, Donna. I'll post Brad's Banana. Try not to be too critical of it...
Missed a golden opportunity there,
didn't I, Mary? Wednesday's post makes up for it though.
BTW, I just mailed your book, so you should be getting it soon!
Thanks Cheryl
ReplyDeleteI'll look out for it. I'm so excited because it'll be the first of this genre for me. No pressure though LOL. Have to check Weasel Wednesday when I get home.
Have a good day all.
Diva...Are you saying I should look in the archives for your big banana RG?
ReplyDeleteI agree that Cheryl should peel our bun boy Brad:)
LMAO, No Nancy, He's not in the archives. He's my hubby. He's here at home in his recliner. LOL!!!
