Monday, Monday...

Alas, there are no moons to shine upon us on this first Monday since "The Change." I've been focusing on other things, like recipes. I've reposted several, but when you consider that I posted a recipe every Tuesday for at least the past two years, I'm wondering if I shouldn't call this blog "Recipes From the CatMaster."

We saw "Despicable Me 2" on Saturday night. Absolutely hilarious, although I'm sure the kids didn't get the significance of some of the funniest stuff. I love it when they put humor in for the parents. Having a good laugh makes sitting in a theater while the kid behind you does a tap dance on the back of your seat a little more tolerable. I actually had tears in my eyes from laughing at the last scene. I won't spoil it for you, but trust me, if you lived through the seventies, you'll laugh.

I've been harvesting a few herbs, which is most of what my garden consists of these days. That reminds me. I need to get some pine nuts for making pesto. Anyway, I picked basil, thyme, and parsley in addition to a whole lot of lettuce. These herbs are hanging from a rack Mikey made for me one Christmas--I'm assuming it was done in shop class, but I really don't remember. He likes having the herbs there and doesn't like it when I take them down to crumble them up and put them in jars. He says it adds a rustic atmosphere to the kitchen. I have to agree. It also shades some of the sunlight that the poplar tree used to block.

Speaking of that tree, Budley moved most of the wood out of the yard yesterday. Now we have two big muddy spots, but with all the rain, I'm sure grass seed would sprout quickly, even in mid-July. He found some termites under the first pile he moved, which kinda freaked him out. They were a good distance from the house, though. I think our termite treatment should keep them at bay. I'd be surprised if there weren't termites a lot closer that he doesn't know about. Yet another drawback to living in the woods. *;) winking

I've been critiquing some chapters for Sandy and Nancy, and I'm up to Chapter 22 on Unrivaled. Still hoping to get it done by the 22nd. Wish me luck!

And by the way, Donna, you're the winner.

  1. Some of the lake pals also went to see Despicable Me 2 while we were driving home last night. They all said it was really cute and funny. My herbs are in pots this year--just don't have enough time in the day to tend 2 yards! Have you ever made bruschetta with your fresh basil? Soooo good!! Your kitchen looks very inviting! Just sent you a new chapter. {{Hugs}}

  2. Cheryl,
    I'm sorry that this junk happened to you. I love your Cat books and I have loved your blog. I will continue reading it because of your stories, recipes and your sense of humor. I love your pictures of your yard, animals, family and adventures. Keep writing and we hard core Cheryl fans will keep reading. Enjoy your day and take some time to do something for yourself. (chocolate and a good book comes to mind) KJ

  3. LOL! Just critiqued it and sent it back to you, Nan! I've never made bruschetta before. I'll have to give it a go!

    Thanks for the vote of confidence, Kandis! I am SO bummed out about the blog. We had so much fun with it.
    Unfortunately, instead of reading and eating chocolate, I need to get out and mow the yard before it rains. Again. :(

  4. I've heard Despicable Me 2 beat out Lone Ranger over the 4th. My Granddaughter loved it. But oldest want to see Lone Ranger, so we went to see it yesterday. The second time for me. Still love it. I need a Herb Rack like that. I'm undeniably giving up a certain favorite dessert. Thanks a lot to Joey and you Cheryl. I can't believe you did that.

  6. I thought it was better than the first one too, Susan. And they really upped the cuteness factor with Agnes. Adorable!

  7. The herb rack is just a long board with cup hooks in it, Donna. Mike sanded and finished it, of course, but overall, it was very easy to make. The ends of the board rest on top of the cabinets on either side of the kitchen sink. It's perfect for drying herbs and hanging Christmas ornaments!

  9. Well Cheryl, I finally finished Undeniable. I loved it. I think it may be my favorite. I'll have to wait until I read Unrivaled to make my final decision. I mean who hasn't had the fantasy of a totally sexy rocker in their past somewhere. I passed up a couple of unlikely lovers when I was young due to the way they looked. Never met one like Alan though. Makes me wonder what I missed out on. I can say I am happily married to my sole mate for 35 years, so I haven't missed the ones that got away. Can't wait for Unrivaled. Keep writing.

  10. Thanks, Tanya! Glad you enjoyed it. I've fallen for a few rock stars myself. Something about a guy who can make a guitar scream appeals to me, and I doubt I'm alone in that. I'm not sure a man like Alan exists, but it would be a lot of fun to stumble onto one, wouldn't it? Congrats on 35 years. Not many people can say that. :)
